Valerie and Terence • Rochester Wedding Photography

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Another fun wedding weekend! I met with Valerie last fall to chat about her wedding with her fiance and her mom, and was really happy when they decided to book… it sounded like it was going to be a fun day! I met the girls at the church where they were getting ready.. it was a chaotic scene with makeup and clothes strewn everywhere, but everyone was having a blast of course!

Getting the veil on…

Terence sees her for the first time :)

Loooove the colors in this bouquet, it’s the perfect fall arrangement… and the top ring is Terence’s grandmother’s, sweet. :)

First dances are so sweet.

Valerie’s sister Wendy and her boyfriend Ben… I included this shot because I think it’s cute, and because people were calling them “Bendy” ha ha!

Ready, set.. party!

Heckling some boyfriends during “Single Ladies” … put a ring on it gentlemen. Then call me. Ha ha!

We’ve taken tie microphones to a whole new level by including sash microphones… I like this kind of ingenuity!

I want a picture like this of me and my sister!

After the ceremony we headed to a park to do a couple of portraits while everyone tried not to freeze to death! The girls wanted to jump :)

Leslie & Dave • Finger Lakes Wedding Photography

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Another gorgeous day, another gorgeous wedding! I headed down to Heron Hill Winery on Keuka Lake (which I just had to look up… seriously why can’t I keep the lakes straight?) to photograph the girls getting ready. It was quite a scene in the private room, if anyone else tried to come in we would’ve had to start stacking vertically ;) but everyone was happy and excited and having a good time.

Got to love iPhones… they were taking pictures of Leslie’s hair with the phone so she could see the progress. Who needs mirrors!
fingerlakesweddingphotographer-1

Love that you can just see Leslie’s mom through the veil.
fingerlakesweddingphotographer-2

Some finishing touches…
fingerlakesweddingphotographer-3

The ceremony was at St. Gabriel in town… I love how he’s looking at her!
fingerlakesweddingphotographer-4

fingerlakesweddingphotographer-5

That is a big bridal party! :)
fingerlakesweddingphotographer-6

fingerlakesweddingphotographer-14

The reception was a blast, Nik Lite had everyone on the floor all night long, even the flower girl and Elmo :)

Conga madness
fingerlakesweddingphotographer-16

So this was a huge Bills crowd (to which I say hell yes!) and everyone was really excited to hear Shout, and get revved up for Sunday’s game. The guys had a chart with everyone’s score predictions in the church basement, which I photographed for posterity… nobody got the score right, but I think the closest to 33-20 is M.B.’s 28-17… I hope you won something!

Go Bills!

There were no official first dances or parent dances, but I love this shot. I kind of want to photoshop something over that cup though… maybe this will do? Ha ha!
fingerlakesweddingphotographer-20

And some portraits… fortified with flare!

Becki and Dave • Rochester Wedding Photography*

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

*Now with real bits of panther, so you know it’s good.

It didn’t take me long to figure out that Becki and Dave’s wedding was going to be cool, unique and fun… it was at Artisan Works, for one… I also discovered that the girls are all kind of obsessed with the movie Anchorman (that’s what the quote above is all about, for anyone who doesn’t know) which is also one of my favorites. 60% of the time, it works every time.

I was really excited when I saw her beautiful dress:

Lovely
rochesterweddingphotographer-9

The girls had a nice suite at the Strathallan Hotel for most of the preparation stuff…
rochesterweddingphotographer-2

Becki had a little help getting into the vintage piece (I really don’t know what it’s called!) that both her mother and grandmother had worn at their weddings… beautiful!
rochesterweddingphotographer-3

Ok, this is one of my favorite first sights ever. She’s so excited…
rochesterweddingphotographer-4

This is too adorable for life. I love it.
rochesterweddingphotographer-5

And this one.
rochesterweddingphotographer-6

We headed to Corn Hill for some fun stuff with the bridal party, they wanted to jump and I was all in. Nice air!
rochesterweddingphotographer-7

More portraits at the end :)

On to the ceremony, which was sweet and heartfelt…
rochesterweddingphotographer-15

rochesterweddingphotographer-16

Cracking up during the toasts.
rochesterweddingphotographer-17

First dance.
rochesterweddingphotographer-18

Becki’s dad was so funny, a little while after the garter stuff, I noticed the chair was still on the dance floor so I moved it out of the way… he immediately came over and asked what I was doing, because he was just about to start his Flashdance routine… HA HA HA HA! I’m so sorry I ruined your moment!
rochesterweddingphotographer-19

That’s what it’s all abouuuut!
rochesterweddingphotographer-20

Becki was totally heckling the single girls who didn’t come out for the bouquet toss, which rules.

Then we did a few on the roof at Artisan Works, it’s really cool up there!

Mmm, green.

It was a pleasure shooting you two and your family and friends! Thank you!

Project 2996 • Robert E. Russell

Friday, September 11th, 2009

A post for Project 2996, dedicated to remembering individual victims of September 11th, 2001.

Robert Errol Russell, Sr.
russell-r

I think my favorite thing, reading about Robert Russell, is the story of how he met his wife at her surprise 16th birthday party. Teresa walked in to her house to see a stranger thumbing through her records, and she asked what he was doing… without skipping a beat, the young man put Smokey Robinson’s “Ooo Baby Baby” on the record player and replied, “I’m dancing with you.”

Four years later, Robert and Teresa were married.

Robert seemed the definition of a renaissance man- 23 years of active service in the Army as a Sergeant Major (with tours in Germany, Korea and Belgium) two college degrees, budgetary analyst at the Pentagon, remodel-er of a seventeen room historic mansion for his family, and most importantly… a loving father, husband, brother and son.

Oh, and then there was the cooking. Robert’s unparalleled culinary skills had people flocking to the Russell home in droves for a chance to enjoy his cooking, and who could blame them when his specialties included Hershey Pound Cake and pineapple ice cream?

The list of people touched by Robert’s death can’t be quantified, though you can get a sense of how long it is by reading guestbook entries at Legacy.com from coworkers, childhood friends and even complete strangers. His incredible legacy of love, kindness, cooking and laughter will endure, and my thoughts are with Teresa and his children, Cydne, Robert Jr. and Valerie. It was an honor to learn just a bit about this great man.

Whitney and Rick • Rochester Wedding Photography

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Whirlwind weekend! I had an engagement on Friday night, wedding Saturday and I shot with my friend John all day Sunday. I pretty much didn’t move a muscle on Monday, and it felt great!

We had the perfect day for Whitney and Rick’s wedding on Saturday, and this summer? That’s saying a LOT. Sunny, 70’s and no rain… a small miracle, really. I met up with the girls at Del Monte Spa where preparations were underway.
rochesterweddingphotographer-1

Love this detail on Whitney’s dress, the fabric looks so lush.
rochesterweddingphotographer-2

The flower girls were so cute watching all the last minute preparations at St. Anne Church.
rochesterweddingphotographer-3

Whitney and Rick decided to do a first sight, which I love! It’s so much more intimate to have it as a (mostly) private moment, rather than in front of the whole church…
rochesterweddingphotographer-4

And even though he’d already seen her, Rick was absolutely beaming when Whitney came down the aisle… he’s got such a great smile!
rochesterweddingphotographer-5

rochesterweddingphotographer-6

So happy!
rochesterweddingphotographer-7

Note to couples… if your officiant is going to perform the ceremony from in front of you, see if he or she will step to the side during the rings and kiss. Then you won’t have to do reenactments ;)
rochesterweddingphotographer-9

Mr. and Mrs.
rochesterweddingphotographer-8

Niiiiice!
rochesterweddingphotographer-18
We then headed to Oak Hill Country Club for the reception… and took a minute for the bridal party to work it out in front!
rochesterweddingphotographer-10

First dance, all smiles!
rochesterweddingphotographer-12

See?
rochesterweddingphotographer-17

And on to the party…
rochesterweddingphotographer-21

He he
rochesterweddingphotographer-20

Sweet dual air guitars, you really can’t go wrong.
rochesterweddingphotographer-24

A little bit softer now…
rochesterweddingphotographer-22

This is true commitment!
rochesterweddingphotographer-23

A sparkler exit is always fun!
rochesterweddingphotographer-25

And a few portraits-
rochesterweddingphotographer-15

rochesterweddingphotographer-11

I love how they’re looking at eachother… are you picturing cartoon hearts floating above their heads, because I am!
rochesterweddingphotographer-13

Thanks so much for having me, Whitney and Rick! Have a fabulous time on your honeymoon.

Everybody stay tuned, I have a great engagement shoot to blog, as well as something really special that I have been working on for a few days which will be posted on Friday.
