Kristen and Heather • Finger Lakes Wedding Photography

Monday, June 25th, 2012

When Kristen and Heather contacted me about their wedding and mentioned they were working with my friend and ultra-talented coordinator Cyd Converse of The Sweeteset Occasion, I crossed all of my fingers and toes hoping they’d book. Luckily for me, they did, which meant another lovely wedding with Cyd at the helm! When I arrived at the Brae Loch Inn, I headed to Kristen’s room first… she was almost ready and the atmosphere was just totally relaxed and serene.

I told her I was going to go see how things were going in Heather’s room and she wished me luck as I headed down the hall. It was a completely different scene in Heather’s room. There were tons of people and lots of activity, some kids, bridesmaids, Heather’s mom sewing the aisle runner, gleeful hugs. I loved the contrast. Kristen and Heather like to say “We’re the same, but different!” and I definitely could see the latter half of the sentiment in action in the morning!

Kristen and Heather’s first sight was so amazing… so emotional and sweet, and it didn’t hurt that we had this lovely staircase as a backdrop!

Tears!

Kristen and Heather had a lot of cute details, this one was my favorite…

The room where the ceremony was held was very difficult to photograph in because it was so dark, but it did provide a very intimate, cozy feeling.

Look at that gaze… you can really feel the love between these two.

I try to never use flash during ceremonies because it can be distracting, but sometimes you just have to. Fortunately, the room was small enough that I could bounce it and maintain the warm feeling that so reflects their relationship.

I loved this moment after the ceremony, everyone was clustered around figuring out what to do next and Kristen and Heather just sort of disappeared into their own world. So sweet!

Loved the bridal party colors!

I’m going to go in reverse order with these portraits, I am so smitten with the ones we did at sunset I just have to start with them! So much love.

We also shot some earlier in the day in the bright blazing sun, Kristen and Heather were champs.

Yes, I found a fountain. He he.

The reception was beautifully appointed with lovely old books, candles and old vases and such. It really fit the feel of the room with all the dark wood.

Their cake was gorrrrgeous and smelled unbelievably good while I was shooting it. They’re lucky I didn’t steal a layer.

In lieu of favors, donations were made to the Human Rights Campaign so I thought the magnets were a perfect backdrop for Kristen and Heather’s rings.

Once the reception got underway, the bridal party had this insane, hilarious, ten minute dance routine which included a reenactment of Kristen and Heather’s engagement!

HA!

Heather and Kristen’s reactions:

Loved this moment during Heather’s dance with her dad.

And the party continues!

Tonight’s MVP was a very easy decision. Heather’s brother Travis was king of the dance floor, no question.

:D

Thanks so much for having me Heather and Kristen, it was a pleasure! Congratulations!!

16 Days. That’s how long it took Mike to know he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Kate. 1000+ days to make it official. And I got to be there for it! :) I shot Kate and Mike last September on a hot and extremely buggy day and I could see that certainty then. It’s such a comforting energy to be around, they are just totally in love!

I met the girls at the hotel where preparation was underway…

Kate’s mom admires her lovely daughter

Kate’s mom and longtime hairdresser and friend react to seeing her in her dress… :)

The ceremony was very sweet and happy…

So ready..

I love the way Mike looks at Kate.

I love this bridal party so much… seriously some of the nicest ever!

They make it so easy for me!

I <3 fountains!

Confession time: riding in limos makes me feel ill. But it can make for some great moments…

Loved Kate’s simple, beautiful bouquet.

I have been cracking up at this picture since Saturday… it would be selfish of me not to share it I think. LOL! Love it!

Best friends! Kate told me she was not a pretty crier… methinks she wasn’t being very truthful.

So, as I mentioned before, this wedding party ruled. They were super fun and ridiculously nice… I had so much fun with everyone!

Best dance move of the night.

Now it is time for the ceremonial naming of the Wedding MVP. Or, in this case, MVP’s… as illustrated by the next 3 photos. The good news is that they’re a couple so they don’t have to fight it out or anything (or, if you do, make it a breakdance fight and I’ll shoot it!) These two seemed pretty chill for most of the day but as soon as the dance floor opened up, they went nuts.

Kate and Mike decided to throw the bouquet and garter at the same time and Emily made a valiant effort but missed the bouquet… meanwhile the garter is basically floating directly to Alex’s hand…

As soon as he caught the garter, Alex immediately started prancing around majestically, showing off his trophy. Then he got down to business, which included laps around the lucky lady who caught the bouquet, stealing her glasses and a whole lot of gyrating. It was hysterical.

I’m going to have to ask you two to come to every wedding from now on please!

There were no formal parent dances, but I loved catching this moment between Mike and his mom!

Get it!

Congratulations Kate and Mike, I’m so glad I got to spend the day with you, have a fabulous honeymoon! Can’t wait to hear about it!

What a beautiful day Mayra and Brad had for their wedding! It started out dreary but the clouds were drifting away steadily throughout the day… the drive down to Ithaca was looking pretty ominous so we lucked out big time! The girls were ahead of schedule at the salon so I ended up meeting them at the lovely John Joseph Inn for preparations.

Mayra’s dress was so pretty…

The light at John Joseph Inn is so beautiful.

One of my favorites from the day, Mayra waits to head to Sage Chapel

And another great private moment, Mayra waits in the crypts for the ceremony to begin.

Beautiful as always!

Almost there… so happy! And I love that you can see Brad’s smile from the back of his head… that is a legit expression of joy right there!

Perfect first kiss! Well done you two!

Yet another private little moment… Mayra and Brad hurried back to the crypts to let guests filter out. Of course I had to follow them… I don’t think they knew I was there yet. I loooove it.

Hooray for bubbles! (And marriage, ha ha!)

We had to do the classic bridal party shot outside the chapel…

Then it was time for just Mayra and Brad. In our initial conversations, Mayra stressed that she and Brad don’t love posing for pictures so wanted to keep it laid back and fast… oh yeah, you guys are just awful at this.

Mayra wanted to head to the plantations on campus, where they have this cool dock… so glad we had a bit of blue sky by then!

:)

I think this is my favorite portrait from the day!

This one is a close second though…

Of course we needed a shot of Mayra’s awesome reception shoes… sequined blue Chuck Taylors! I love Brad’s stance in this one too, like “Yep, that’s my lady!”

We did finally get a bit of light around sunset and Mayra and Brad were kind enough to oblige me while their salads waited for them! :)

Hello.

Party time… Brad’s expression is the besssst!

I don’t know, but I like it.

I think this guy right here is going to have to be my MVP for the night. Every time I saw him dancing it consisted entirely of rocketing across the floor while waving his hands in the air and grinning. It was hilarious (and seemed to have some pretty good g-forces going!)

Ta-da!

Thank you so much for having me Mayra and Brad! Have an amazing time in Croatia, I am so jealous! You know I had to do a google image search on that and it looks sooooo beautiful… have the best time!
